By Allah’s grace, AlKhair Mosque was listed as the first mosque to be redeveloped under the third phase of the Mosque Building Fund managed by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). Also when it rained heavily, parts of the zinc roof leaked and caused many areas unusable. Because of its small size, cramped offices and rooms for religious classes, the mosque then can only accommodate a limited number of students and congregation at any one time. Located at the fringe of Teck Whye estate, along Choa Chu Kang Road. It was originally named Jamek Mosque but later renamed as Al Khair officially in 1963.
Today, Alkhair Mosque is able to accommodate an almost five-fold increase in the number of congregation. Within two years, at 1 Teck Whye Crescent, the current AlKhair Mosque, was completed. Thankfully, it was built on top of a small knoll and was spared of flooding.
AlKhair was founded in early 1960 through the joint effort of the Muslim community in that area and the former Minister of State, Dr Haji Yaacob Mohammad. Our existing core focus - religious, educational, family and youth development services had also expanded. It has boosted the enrolment for the part-time Madrasah classes for children and youths as well as the Pre-school to more than 2,000 students. It was officially opened on 31st May 1998 by the late Honourable Mr. Harun A Ghani, then Political Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In 1997, AlKhair Mosque was one of the few kampung mosques in Singapore that provided religious and social services to the Muslim residents in Bukit Panjang, Teck Whye and Choa Chu Kang estates. The mosque was located on a hilltop surrounded by vegetable farms along the Choa Chu Kang Road.
