The previous Assyakirin mosque was built and declared open on 30 th April 1978. The gross floor measurement was 2, 549.34 sq m. It could be widened to 3, 231 sq m.
Rapid development would take place within the five year period in the Jurong region. It was the third new generation mosque built in the First Stage. The Assyakirin Mosque Management Board requested and gained permission from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) to hold various projects to raise development fund.

Based on findings from detailed study made by MUIS in 1997, it was decided that Assyakirin mosque have to be redeveloped to meet future needs.
Leading To The Redevelopment Project.
Population growth expected in the Jurong West Extension area. Cost of building construction and land purchase was S$1, 270, 950.59. (Excluding fixtures and fittings and office equipment).
Assyakirin mosque's land was not fully utilised. At that point of time, Assyakirin mosque can only accommodate 3, 000 congregations. Highly likely more Muslims will relocate to this region. Old flats would be replaced with spanking newly designed flats.
Majapahit mosque was demolished in the year 2000, increasing the possibility of growth in number of Assyakirin mosque's congregation.
This situation will be made worse when development in its surrounding area has completed.
This project was completed at the end of the year 2002. It will not be able to cater to any increase in numbers of congregation during public holidays.
