The estimated cost to build the mosque was $25, 000. With an area size of 2444.3m² and an estimated cost of $2.2million the works on a new three storey building begins.
With the help from “Persekutuan Seruan Islam” (Jamiyah) and the support from Hj Syed Ali Redha Alsagoff and Hj Baharuddin, a piece of land (278.5m²) between Tiong Bharu Rd and Henderson RD was obtained and approved by the Govermnet for the site of a new mosque.
As the years goes by and the area around the mosque is being developed looking more into an urbanized Singapore, that the needs for a bigger and modern mosque to cater to the ever increasing Muslim community arise. Some of the committee members include Hj Salimin b Sidek, Asri b Suhod and Suri B Kamari.
In 1962 the official opening of the mosque was carried out. To commemorate the two foundation for the important role they played in the building of the mosque, the mosque was named “Jamiyah Ar-Rabitah Mosque”.
So in 1972 a proposition to rebuild and expand the mosque was brought up and was refer to MUIS. A sum of $10,000 managed to be raised through fund raising activities, while the balance of $15000 was donated by “Rabitah Al-Alam Al-Islamiah” which is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
On Sunday 17th july 1983 the old mosque which has been in service for about 20 years was demolished. The proses in acquiring the land for expantion takes longer than expected. To make matters worse the mosque is also in need of repairs due to years of usage.
In the 50s a plan to build a mosque for the muslim committe in the area which used to be known as Alexandra City Council Quarters, Henderson Hill, Redhill Rd and areas around it was presented to the Government by a committee which consist of resident living in the area. It was not until 1981 that the approval was given after the structure of the mosque was seriously damage due to the works on the sewerage system in the area.
